I live in League City texas and I was without power for 4 days last week. The temperature in my house got to 35 degrees.
Corporate greed. 🤑 Move into shared co-op electricity like Oregon does. Sue every last company that failed you and give the power back to the people, literally.

I hate how hot my country is but wow I would probably hate living in the cold.

I remember my heater broke in the coldest winter thank God I had 2 kerosene heater in our basement kept the house warm and my neighbor insulated our pipes.

We have thousands without power in ohio, wv and ky but all we hear is texas....the rest of us are suffering too. Been without power or heat for a week and no end in sight with more ice and snow coming.
Yea it was off here for mostly2days.I lived in tx for40yrs but grew up in oklahoma.They would laugh at this but the problem here is it effects thousands and thousands of people not just a few.yea snow in oklahoma sticks around for weeks.I just know this next time i will prepare.I havent seen weather like this here for yrs.Hope things go well with you whereever you are God bless

Why would you have water pipes in the attic? Why wouldn't you have a cord of wood always on standby? Because you rely on HVAC BS, and don't know what it means to survive. We lose power,we also lose water! Sounds like hippie whinging in Texas!
I struggle to figure out why the children are not dressed for the cold, if it’s cold. Put some socks, shoes, hats, jackets and warm them on. Sheesh!

LP.. That happened to my friend with COPD who needed oxygen 24/7 and you have to make sure you don't get snowed in where emt can't get to you. Perhaps call the rescue non emergency and let them know where you are and what to do.

League City, for those of us in NW Texas, is the tropics. Below zero temps, no power, water wells shutdown and mainly no way to get information from anyone. Its almost like they are hiding the real problems from us. Governor runs to Hannity to blame a NY congresswoman and the dumb suck it up.

I'm the best..I am pretty sure they are real, just used to living in a warm climate, like Florida and are uneducated when it comes to common knowledge concerning heating a home and layering your clothes.
I'm just a little confused about their attire in this polar vortex especially considering I don't see any snow or ice and they don't seem to be dressed for winter in the house and in the car the baby has no shoes on. Maybe I'm missing something

My dogs love it when we have weeks-long outtages in Seattle because they get to sleep in the bed for community survival. They become rock stars. Makes a huge difference.

I'm in San Antonio. It got this cold 30 years ago, but for nowhere near this long. We're prepared for harsh weather, but harshness at the other end of the spectrum. I've been mostly without power for 3 days, but a little prep and making do and we're fine. I hope to not see lots of money spent to address the "next time," which is unlikely to occur in the lifetime of anyone today. As for what people are wearing, unless they travel to colder climates, buying clothes for extreme cold is a waste.
That's because your infrastructure in Wisconsin is more suited for the harsh winters you have every year. In the south, it normally doesn't get that cold in the winter. Our homes are better suited for keeping heat out during the summer (triple digit numbers). Its a keen to having a blizzard in Australia. I'm really worried about all my family and friends in Texas right now. :(
They are blessed to have a fireplace........ I feel bad for the ones who do not have a fireplace and for the homeless.

Little things! For a start, try putting socks on your little one's feet! That's where the heat disappears: The extremities. Even if a kid hated socks I'd at least give it a go at getting them on them. You're all barely wearing any clothes like it's not cold at all. If it's really bad and you have no mittens, you can also put socks on their little hands. And where's your jumper? You're in what, only two t-shirts? That's spring clothing.
I agree. I don't want to "victim blame," but it's strange to see how they are dressed. I'm from LA so I still don't have "real winter" grade coats as you would have in NY or Chicago. Even then, when it's cold, I was taught to wear 3 layers of long sleeve and thermal underwear and socks. Even if you don't have heavy down jackets, layering still helps!
